My 1984 150hp Johnson hasn't been charging.
I've only got .03 volts going back to the batteries coming out of the voltage regulator(red wire). I tested the lead on the end of the wire coming directly off the regulator which jumpers up with the #2 battery cable(going back to the battery switch). The red wire comes directly from the regulator and is brand new. The regulator, alternator, stator are all new and were replaced during and extensive rebuild which the previous owner had done. The charging hasn't been working since i've had the boat but otherwise it runs like a top. There are two yellow wires, one grey, and one purple going into the regulator/rectifier. My tach works fine. I read 22v on each of the yellow wires going to the regulator/rectifier but only .03v coming back out on the red wire. The purple and grey wires that come out of the rectifier go to the jumper bar on the side of the engine. The wires that go back to the harness/other side of the engine are original. Are these just for the tach? I am wondering if there is a high resistance joint somewhere keeping the regulator from doing it's job. Any ideas?
