charging question?

i have a johnson 99 model 9.9 2 stroke just wondered if they charge battery to run lights radio etc...., i had a older 85 model that did but not enuff to keep battery charged, any help would be appreciated

Is it electric start; if so then it should have a rectifier to somewhat charge the battery more like a trickle charger. Read battery voltage with engine off then crank engine and see if the reading is higher. If not, then you may have fried rectifier.

electric start, but no guages just keyswitch on control box?

Will was talking about putting a volt meter across the battery and taking readings with the mtr off and then running.

ohh ok, just thought someone may know already if they charge fully or need a 4 stroke motor for that
