Charging Question

Ok, next question.<br /><br />On my 87 90hp Johnson outboard, I'm assuming it has a stator type charging system. How much power (Volts and amps) should it put out? Are there upgrades to get more amps so that my trolling batteries charge better when I'm running the gas motor? Motor running or not, my volt gauge runs 12 volts.<br /><br />Dave

Your volt meter should show about 14 volts running.I'm not out in the shop to look at the service manual, but I think that system puts out about 9 amps. Hopefully some one will step in here, and help us out. I don't know if you could put on a heavier system or not.That would take a different stator,and voltage regulator.
