You may have read my post on the"No Tach No Charge" Thread a few weeks ago. I replaced the rectifer after it tested bad i got a new one and that was a factory dud. the new new one came today i installed it and now it puts out 13.5 v at 1500 RPM I have the optinal voltage regulator installed. I used a multimeter at the battery to check the voltage it fine , but the tach is still dead is possible that the tach got spiked or something to kill it? How do you check the tack with a multimeter.... 1983 150 Black Max

I just went thru that with the same motor. I finally found the culprit, an intermittant bad rectifier. In the process I found that Bass Pro mechanics have a little box to check a tach with. Maybe one of your local shops have one of those magic boxes. I know of no way of checking one with an ohm meter.

I ran thru the Teleflex tach problem check list and I have all the correct voltages but the tach is dead..... Now I have a excuse to buy a new one.......
