My boat has a 24v trolling motor with 2 deep cycle batts and an on board charger...all is fine and dandy there. In the console I have a switch (2 battery) and a starting battery only. All my "house stuff" runs off the starter! Can I put a deep cycle with a start battery with the swtch and...here's ther real question...charge them with one on board charger at the same time? If this is too convaluted please let me know because I need an answer soon. I've only got 2 weeks left on my new boat owner program with west marine.

You could charge them simultaneously with a two-bank on-board charger.

You don't want to use them in parallel *or* charge them in parallel either, unless they are identical in all respects.

You can run 12V accessories off one of the trolling batteries with a center tap.

What accessories are you running? Unless it's a fancy oxygenated bank tank running full time, or a hi-powered CD amplifier blasting tunes up in party cove for hours, you ought to be alright, long as your engine is charging the way it should.

The most I will be running is a bait tank, lights, stereo (normal boombox) and fishfinder/chartplotter. I just don't want to ever even worry about a dead cranking battery. The trolling motor is isolated to the 2 deep cycle batts. My dealer says just getr a 2nd heavy duty cranking batt.

I would get a 3 bank on board charger with 10 amps Per bank and wire in.
You could also get a two bank charger or a 24 volt charger and charge your trolling motor batteries, and get a second on board charger for the starting battery.

The on board charger are overpriced but are very easy to hook up and use.
