I am having a problem with the charging system on my OMC 185 (GM 305) The alternator(prestolite 6222 External regulator) tested good, but it has a bad bearing... Rebuild cost 90$ + new regulator - 60$.
I can get a rebuilt 1 wire Marine delco off ebay for 60$ that is internaly regulated..

Has anyone done a conversion to one of these delco alternators???

Well, First is this alternator "Marine Spec" ? If it is, and the Clocking ( Mounting ) all lines up ok ( which should all small blocks 305, unless marine mounting is different ) the One wire Feild /charge back system will work fine with the Internal Regulator. Email me if you need a wiring run down <metwrench@aol.com>

I would ask this ebayer to take a CLOSE photo of the Mounting and see if it looks the same, Maybe even some measurements...

Re: Charging System - Alternator/Voltage Regulator

Just did mine not too long ago. Just need to wire it directly to the battery and either tape off the other two or three wires or like I did, remove them altogether. It's that simple.

As others have indicated you want to be very sure it's marine rated (spark arrestor screens in all of the airflow openings) and that the mounting is the same.
