charging system

i have a late eighties 35 merc and i was just wondering about a charging system.. i really dont have any idea how i would know if it had a charging system.. if anyone could tell me where to look or if it doesnt have one how much it would cost approximately to put one in.. the 35 isnt quite cutting it for tolling i need slower more smoother running speed.. any help would be awsome.

If it has a stator and rectifier, it should have a charging system.<br />Could you be more specific on "Late 80's" ?<br />They have had Rectifier/stator systems way before then anyway.

what im trying to get at is i dont know if mine does.. too tell u the truth im really not sure what year it is.. it has a piece in the mittle of the motor towards the top with 1988 on it.. this piece is on the front of the motor just in fornt and below flywheel.. it has different wire leading to it but im just wondering.. if u could just explain where i would look for one that would be great.. this piece is a box looking thing with 2 cylindrical pieces on the outside anyways thats about it.. thanx

Walleye 1<br /><br />I am SURE that the people can help, as they know plenty about Mercs.<br />Just keep "Bumping" the post up, as the time is different to ours whereby most iboaters are probably asleep.
