charging system?

i have a 1969 evinrude 115 on a 1971 winner how does this system charge the battery??? i dont think it is.how do you know if it works i only run a radio,fishfinder,and lights.i have to charge the battery every 3-4 days,its a new 550 coldcranking amps battery any help would be great thanks

do you have a service manual, if not get one, they are great for us do it yourselfers, you may want to put a meter across your battery while the engine is running, make sure the battery is low, but high enough to start the engine,let it run a while, and see if you are building up voltage,dc voltage if not, then time to start checking the stator and regulator/ rectifier, do you have a tach, does it work, if not, good indication the stator or rectifier is bad, you should think about checking the resistance on the stator coil related to the charge circuit, and also the v ac output, if good move to the rectifier, yuo should have a 3or 4 wire rectifier, 2 yellows a red and possibly a gray for yuor tach if equipt, yellow leads are the ac voltage, red is dc to the battery and gray in the ac to drive the tach, good luck and keep us infoed
