Basically just would like to know if an 86 Mariner Marathon 135 actually charges the starter battery when running

Thanks

Re: Charging the starter battery

It is supposed to. That motor should have a rectifier and a voltage regulator, according to the parts list. Rectifiers blow all the time.

is there an easy way to test the rectifier?

And where about is it located?

Re: Charging the starter battery

If the voltage goes to between 13 and 16 after starting then it's a safe bet the rectifier/regulator is working. You could ohm out the diodes.

Dozer, According to the parts list the rectifier will be port, top, rear of the motor. It will be black plastic, rectangle with three connections. It should have two yellow wires on it and a red.
