Not that I don't empathize with those of you who might have suffered some losses in the recent hurricanes in Florida, because I do. But out of all that devastation, I have two pieces of good news: Neither my mother-in-law in St. Pete Beach, nor my mom's trailer in Dunedin Beach (north of Tampa) had any damages or losses. My mom stays up here during the hot months, so her physical safety was never in jeopardy. We worried a little about my M-I-L during Charley. She wouldn't evacuate because her cats wouldn't be accepted in shelters so the 74 yr. old woman stuck it out in her little condo, just 1/2 mile from Tampa Bay. Same with this go-round, except she had invested in some plywood and had it installed over her windows and patio doors. Talking to her tonight, she said she's leaving the wood up until Ivan makes up his mind on where he's headed. We're relieved!
Nice to hear all yours are Ok. Had a person say to me today that God is getting back at Florida for putting Bush in as President. I told her that was like saying God causes problems because the US. believes women, gays, blacks, etc have rights. In time of problems lets leave God out of it.
If you live where it is cold and snowy you prepare for it. If you live in a flood plain, move. If you live where there are Hurricane's, build well. I was never a boy scout but their motto of always being prepared seems to be a good one.
Hopefully Ivan peters out or takes a hard right.

We were very lucky here on Mobile Bay that Ivan took a jog to the east at the last minute. It put us on the weak side of the hurricane and the damage was not nearly as severe. We only went without power for three days this time and never without water. My pier was damaged, but only moderately, as hurricanes go. The damage just to the east, though, was terrible-Gulf Shores, Pensacola and the areas just north of them. I feel for these poor people and what they're going through.

Top Ten Reasons Hurricane Season is Like Christmas

10. Decorating the house (boarding up windows)

9. Dragging out boxes that haven't been used since last season(camping gear, flashlights)

8. Last minute shopping in crowded stores

7. Regular TV shows pre-empted for "specials"

6. Family coming to stay with you

5. Family and friends from out-of-state calling

4. Buying food you don't normally buy ... and in large quantities

3 Days off from work

2. Candles

And the number one reason Hurricane Season is like Christmas ...

At some point you know you're going to have a tree in your house!
