Okay, so in trying to chase down the electrical leakage in the boat, that may be causing my battery to go dead after a week on the trailer, I tried the 12v lamp tester (that I use on trailer lights) from my battery (positive post) to the wire that feeds my fishfinder and my radio. 1st with the jacks to the fishfinder unplugged. Brief flash then nothing. So I run out & buy another cheap meter with an amp scale. Then put it in (again pos post to the wire feeding them) It reads 15.4 mA. Tried the lamp again & another brief flash when contact is first made. (flashes for about a second then goes out)
I then unplug the radio (at the radio) and plug the jacks back into the fishfinder. Retest back at the battery & no light with the test light but 6.2 mA with the meter.
I had 12.8v across the pos-neg terminals on the battery which is a marine starting battery. (new at mid-end of last year & charged over the winter.)
Radio has a turn-knob which makes a definite click when turned on or off. Although it does have a programable memory for the scan mode. Fishfinder has a pushbutton on/off.
Positive post to other wires at battery showed no spark, no light, and 0.0 amps.
It sounds like my battery is weak from going dead twice and I really need to seriously look at putting in a switch in that line that feeds the radio and the fishfinder. (Along with a new battery)
Any thoughts?
Thanx
