Ok so the question I have is. I see a 24ft Bayliner in my area. They are asking 1950$ for. I already own a Bayliner 1600capri. So I am aware of the (great craftmen). The boat is a 24ft with a 6cyl volvo with a closed cooling system. The misses gave me the ok to get it but.... what should I look out for or is it with getting??????? Thanks for any and all input. And yes I know bayliners are something like the pinto's of boats. Lol

Re: bayline??? Pinto's of boats

Doesn't matter who made it. What matters is what condition it is in and how well it was cared for.

Some of the Bayliners offer great rides, the engine and drive train are identical to those found in more expensive boats, but you might not get over the top fittings and accessories and the frills are kept to a minimum.

Your post is woefully short on information: Year, etc

The Pinto analogy is way off. Think of a good, entry-level priced car; don't think of a dangerous ticking time-bomb notorious for killing people.

It's not so much that it's a bayliner as that it's a 24' boat for $1950--and trailer? If so, that's even worse.

Any boat that big for that cheap should be raising flags and warnings everywhere. Any boat of value just wouldn't be priced at that price unless it's in severe need of a bunch of potentially expensive repairs.

Things to consider:

Have you done a sea test?
Survey?
Have you seen the engine run, out drive shift-forward, neutral, reverse?
Floors, transom and stringers? are they solid?
What's the power plant?
What's the out drive
What works and what doesn't?
Trailer any good?
Salt or fresh?
Why is the price so low?

With what little you have shared it appears you are buying someone else's headache, maybe tell us much more about the boat.

You will no doubt put more than the asking price back into it. Really check it over, your a boater you know what to look for. Tires on trailer, brakes, basic tune up items. All pricy, even if you do work yourself. Just some things to consider on any good deals regardless of manufacturer. I have to say, there are deals out there. If it checks out you sure can't beat the price. Think about the tow vehicle you'll be using. Can it tow it? Safely?

ANY boat at ANY price should raise all those same flags..... the price is just one more thing to consider.... at 2k or 20k it needs the same scrutiny during inspection

I have just a wee bit of a reputation for finding good deals.... I sure wish I had a dollar for each person who figured they'd "look at it this weekend" or after supper or whatever while I called immediately and said "I'm on the way NOW".... I've walked away from many piles of junk but if you want the deals, you drop your ham sandwich and bolt out the door.

If the Volvo Penta driveline is original to the boat, the boat was made prior to the nosedive in Bayliner quality. But the boat is 25 + years old, so it's all about its current condition.

"you usually get what you pay for."
sure there are some awsome deals but be prepaired for dissapointment.
If it were in decent condition the asking price would reflect it.
