What would be the cheapest and easiest way to refinish my fiberglass jon boat before paint? I was going to spray on bedliner then paint it, but the bedliner did not cover the woven. Bought a quart of Bondo Glass, but figured I would ask you guys before I go that route.

Re: Cheap refinish

Umm, you might be hard pressed to find anything that will stick to the bedliner, on the interior or the exterior of the boat's hull. I hate to say it, but maybe more bedliner? It'll get heavy though, so I probably wouldn't. You might try rattle can Vinyl/Fabric dye or 1 of the new plastic patio furniture spray cans. Depending on the make up of the liner you used. Some are more plasticized (harder) and some tend to be more rubberized (flexible).

But either way, you'll need a specialty paint, and some through prep to get anything to stick to the liner very well or for very long... just IMHO.

BTW: It took me FOREVER w/ very harsh/toxic industrial stripper to remove the bedliner sprayed on the entire interior hull bottom of my Jet..... It was not a pleasant experience.

Since you have already sprayed the bedliner, you have limited options. I would NOT recommend bondo for it, and as JBC has already stated, not to many things are going to stick to the bedliner . IMHO you're gunna have to live with it as it is.

Yup bedliner is really not recommended for boats and never for repairs.

What are your intentions? Just leave the woven cloth exposed and paint over it with a roller and some rustoleum...... now that's the cheap way!

The bedliner is in a small spot by the transome. What you see is what I have right now. I would prefer a smooth or textured finish that will be painted white. The green gets way too hot in the sun here and I don't like the look of the woven. Figured I would fix that before the paint. I remember painting a buddies floor with the garage epoxy. It came out nice. I don't know if it thick enough to cover what I have.
