Check engine light and alarm goes on

Hi,

My 2000 150 hp Johnson alarm and check engine light goes on when I'm at 29 rpm. I slow down and the alarm and light goes off. The motor never stalls or shows any signs of failure. What could it be?

The "Check Engine" alarm is a fuel restriction. See if the main strainer plus any fuel filters and water separators you might have, are clean and not causing a fuel restriction. Also, the main fuel line should be 3/8" inside diameter (ID), for proper operation.

Check it with a vacuum gauge according to the service manual and you should find the problem. It's never failed me yet.
