I just got my 2000 evinrude fitch 200HP motor hooked up and took it out for the first this weekend. sat. I had it out with no issues. never had it over 4,000 rmp just taking it easy for the first run. then today I dropped it in and it started fine and was running great. after i let it warm up i put it up to about 3,000 and 10 secs later my check engine light came on. so i shut it down thinking i saw the water temp light and waited a couple minutes. I then started it back up and the gauge was fine. jumped it back up to 3,000 and the engine light went back on. the motor wasnt acting up at all and was running fine. i didnt run it after that, I had stayed close to the boat ramp and put her back on the trailer. I was wondering how serious of a problem it could be to trip the light. I feel like the two main lights are the water temp and no oil light. could I get away with running it with the light on?

Re: check engine question

The check engine light is a fuel restriction. Check for a pinched fuel line, stuck anti-siphon valve or a plugged fuel filter

Re: check engine question

There are no fuel restriction check engine lites on a ficht. Some thing else is happening in the system. What you can do is take the fuel filter off of the mtr, dump fuel in a glass jar and look for any water. Water in the filter will set off check engine lite. If that's not it, take to a dlr and have him put his lap top on it and see what codes come up. Hope this helps.
