I got a buddy that is hated by most items of modern technology. <br /><br />He got a fancy new depthfiner once. It had every option you could get on it. This is a guy that can't make the VCR clock stop blinking 12:00 too.<br /><br />He went out fishing a few times, sees fish all over it, but can't get a bite.<br /><br />At the loading ramp/courtesy dock one time, he's talking to someone, and tells them there's all sorts of fish under the dock and it'd be a great place to fish if he had more time.<br /><br />The guy looked at him a minute, looked at his depth finder, then said he had the demo program running on it. Its sort of like a 'screen saver', and would show fish all over the place even in his driveway.

DOH! My MIL says all those things (fish finders) are just computer programs to get the fisherman excited!

I'd think bird seed would work.<br /><br />Then ya could look at all the fish going by, and say, "Stupid piece off junk, it doesn't even know the difference between birds and fish".

ROFL. My dad still uses the same depth finder he has used since I was a kid. He has two different lenght ore that he sticks in the water to see if its "OK", or "Pretty deep"

The wife and I will be out fishing, Neither one of us are getting bites but the poor ole H'bird is beeping to beat hell. Finally I get tired of hearing it and tell wifey to take that thing off the most sensitive setting. Her excuse for setting it so sensitive is she likes to see the fish swim by.

Yep!, He who designs a fish finder needs to design a feature that can tell if the fish are hungry or just in a hurry to get out of your way.<br /><br />Have some fun sometime, hang your stringer of fish by the transponder without others knowing that you did it. Man oh man, look at all them fish on the finder!

I only use mine for depth. When I see fish, I just get discouraged, anyway, because I ain't catching them.

My bro and I are still looking for the fishfinder that can label each fish for size, species and mood and perhaps give hints on the culinary preferences of that particular fish. <br /><br />So far, our experience is that most fishfinders are set from the factoy to show fish only when there are none biting and to hide the fish that are there when they are hungry. I'm guessing that some fish PAC owns a majority share of Humminbird.

I heard somewhere that it was an anchor locator too.<br /><br />Hmmmmmmmmmm - a multipurpose tool. should patent it and sell it on an infomercial.

Yeah, and when you market it, don't forget to mention it also has a audio feature that tells you when you've driven up onto your trailer too far on a shallow angled loading ramp.

No, that's the shoal finder. Important distinction.

I did the same thing except realized my own mistake. I was standing in 80' of water and couldn't beieve it. It was really 5 feet so I was only called an idiot by my buddy. I think almost everybody has done it at least once.

Sounds like a friend of mine. He went flying in his own light aircraft. <br /><br />The next day I asked him how he went. He said that it was a shocking day because on each leg of his course he had a headwind, because the clouds kept coming towards him!!!

reminds me of my Grand Dad. He used to walk 37 miles or so to school every day. He always said it wouldn't have been so bad except that it was uphill both ways.
