Is there a way of checking my shift cable for proper adjustment? Everything looks like it is working properly but before I hit the bay, I would like to make sure everything is in spec. Is the only way removing the outdrive and using the OMC adjusting tools? Would removing the cable from the bellcrank screw up the settings? Thanks for help, newbie questions I know.

check out this link, should tell you everything you need to know about adjusting your shift cable and more! I had a stiff cable and feared the worst, just bought the boat... just needed some lube on the bell crank end, and all was in spec. Check out your ESA (electronic shift assist) as well, i see LOTS of people posting with hard shift probs, overkilling the cable adjustment issue, and never even considering the ESA. My boat had the old spring and was not activiating in forward, took apart, scrunched the spring, and fixed.

Hope this helps.

It could! Did you do that?

nope. Never touched it yet.

Just checked out the hastings site. Great info. Thanks. I am paranoid as I just bought the boat, then read horror stories.

Again, thanks. This info is great!
