The primer bulb needs about 8 or 9 pumps to get firm. after the engine runs for a while the bulb goes soft, the engine never stops. would this be a bad check valve inside the bulb. I am using a lot of oil and the engine smokes a lot . could this be the problem?

Hi Tuxedo88,
It sounds like you have an air leak on the fuel side. Sounds like the VRO is pumping more oil than fuel. I had one like that smoked so bad a person could have run skeeters off with it. It took me quite a while to find it,turned out to be in a change over valve.
Have fun

Ditto almost retired again...

A clear piece of fuel approved vinyl hose put just before the VRO pump will prove this, allowing you to see the air if any....Places like Home Depot and Auto parts carry the stuff. While you're at it, tee in a pressure gauge and check the fuel pressure. That'll take all the guess work out of it......
:)

Had a very recent and similar problem with a 93 50 hp Evin. Much smoke, oily residue after use from the exhaust and soft bulb while running. Replaced the entire fuel line, ( $20 and 5 minutes) and problem solved. Hope you can fix your situation as easily.
