Had a bearing that was starting to make noise, decided to try and get through the last of the season before changing it so I just loaded up my bearing buddy and left to fish.
Well the "bearing" kept getting louder and louder, I look in the mirror and see my trailer tire wobbling to beat all, no problem, I will get out my tool kit and tighten it, socket, extension, crap, no ratchet.
Got it tight(sort of) with pliers and drove slow but by the time I got to the ramp all the threads were gone and there was a 1/4 gap between all the nuts and the rim.
Had to drive 15 miles home at less than 10 mph, kept pulling over to put grease on the lugs so they wouldn't wear any more, took an hour and a half but I made it.
18 bucks for new lugs and nuts and it is ready to go again but it would have been much easier to just tighten them in the first place, that is now on my check list, grease bearings, tighten lugs.
Lesson, don't guess what the problem is, find the problem and make sure it is fixed (and make sure your tool kit has tools in it!).
