I broke a piece of the Throttle linkage over the weekend while I was trying to raise the idle. WP_000452.jpg

I got a new end piece but I took the shaft and other end off for cleaning before I realized that this arm tied the timing advance and the Carb positions together and have to way to "reset" it to the proper length. How can I check this?

Thanks Again as always!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If all you adjusted was the length of the throttle link rod from the towershaft to the throttle cam, with the throttle butterflies closed, the scribed line on the cam should line up with the black roller on the carb arm. Adjust the length or the throttle link rod so it snaps over the ball stud without moving the roller from the alignment scribe line. Check WOT that the throttle butterflies are horizontal. Timing should not have been affected.

I'm sure that there is some type of specs as far as the length in some manual somewhere. Probably buried deep in a factory manual which I've never seen. Maybe someone else can chime in if they have the info.

Having said that, I don't think that the length is that critical. I would adjust the length so that the lines on the throttle cam line up close to the roller on the throttle linkage on the carburetors when at idle. May have to play with the length a little to get the lines/roller lined up properly per the manual. You kind of get the idea. Also check the throttle plates on the carburetors to make sure they are perfectly horizontal with the throttle handle at WOT.

That linkage is not meant to adjust idle speed. The screw with the locknut in the picture (left lower) is turned clockwise to raise RPM's Counter clockwise to lower.

Re: Checking/Adjusting the Timing on a 1990 150hp Force

The length is not as critical but its main function why it is adjustable rather than fix is for zeroing the throttle valves with the timing. In short, when timing is at zero or TDC (on #1 piston) and the idle screw backed out all the way or at least not pushing against the tower and the throttle controls in neutral, this linkage should be adjusted so the throttle valves are fully closed. This will be indicated by the scribed line on the cam being aligned with the eccentric screw slot line. This is discussed in the link and synch sticky by Frank A.

You posted in an old, very old, thread and in the wrong forum section.
