Checking an Engine Serial Number

I am very interested in a great looking fishing boat with an Optimax 150 hanging on the back.

Problem is, the boat is a fair distance away so if I go to buy it I only want to make 1 trip. The current owner has sent me a bunch of info - printout of engine numbers, repairs (compressor and 1 injector last year) and is willing to do a water test. He also has multiple years of general service nfo (leg oil, sparks etc) and the engine had 396 hours on it last fall when he changed the injector (and has not been used since it's been winter since then).

He sent me a video of the engine running - sounds a little rough at idle but I think that is somewhat normal for Optis's

I am wondering if there is a way to check the engine serial number to see if it is the year he says it is or any other info that may be available. I have tried a few online tools I found here but none confirm what exactly the engine is. Mercury site simply shows a list or parts

Any other advice is always appreciated.

serial number is 0T986377
