Checking compression?

I have often heard that you must ground the spark plug leads while cranking the engine. Would it be ok to use a remote starter switch to crank the engine while leaving the ignition switch off? Using the remote starter with the ignition off, there would not be a need to ground the spark plug leads.

I usually pull the kill switch. Then crank the enigne. But your method sounds fine. As long as the ignition system is grounded. Make sure all the plugs are removed from the engine while checking compression.

I like to hook up my remote start switch, and spark tester at the same time. That way, I'm standing right beside the engine, and make both test's at once.

Now that's an idea I never thought of. Sounds good to me.
