Re: checking control box block diode
how do you check block diode in a 1972 control box [ I am not getting any power to my push button smitches]
Just like any other diode, with a continuity tester of some sort, be it an ohmmeter, multimeter, test light, etc. Note that many (most) digital multimeters won't work unless it has a diode test function. But a cheap analog one from Wal-Mart will.
What you do is connect the tester's leads to the diode and note the resistance. Should be high or low. Then reverse the leads and note the resistance again. Should be the opposite as before--if it was high before, now it should be low. Two highs or two lows means it is shorted or open N/G.
EDIT: Quick and cheap way to check it.... Connect a piece of plain wire across the diode. If the shift works now, the diode was open. But you won't be able to turn the motor off till you remove the wire.
