1986 evinrude 140 h.p. trying to determine charge coil output. I'm using a ac meter on the two leads, get 86.5 volts, should this be multiplyed by 1.414 to obtain voltage reading of a cd volt meter, I understand the 175 volts required. What is the differance between a digital multimeter and a cd voltmeter

Re: checking voltage from charge coil

got another post from another site, the digital multimeter on ac is rms, it does averages voltage not spikes, 1.414 is the square root of 2 this converts rms to peaks in the voltage
