chev inline 6 cyl horse power

I have a 1979 Galaxy boat that I am going to part out it has a mercruiser out drive. it is powered by a general motors straight 6 with a 2 barrel rochester. it has OMC manifolds on it. does any one know what the horse power rating is on this engine. and any idea what it is worth?

give or take about 160hpfor the 250cu.in. 6
200hp for the 300 6

Speaking of mercruiser engines:

the 250 cu in is a 165

the 200 hp is a 292 cu in would be a 4 barrel I believe

Having an OMC manifold is odd..... never heard of a chev inline 6 omc myself...... as for value..... good luck..... Unless you can find someone who needs one, you're in the scrap metal range..... I bought a good running low hour mercruiser 165 a few years ago for a refit... It was a complete running boat and I bought everything I wanted from the boat, engine, drive, transom assembly, wiring, trim pump, etc for $300.

Recently a local guy to me has had a pair of running 200's for sale for months for $1000 and they haven't sold.

A 1979 Galaxy would have had the 165hp version in line 6. Very possible that someone put an OMC manifold on it. The 292cid is a V-6.
Value? They are still available, so I wouldn't say it's gold but don't just donate it either! If your gonna let it sit, atleast set it up for extended storage!

no there WAS a 200 hp merc inline 292. They are pretty rare tho.

The 292 is inline 200 hp. This motor is becoming even harder to find. My last motor swap was from the 250 to the 292. Eventhough I had 35 extra HP, I burned a ton more fuel for about 4-7 knots. I'm going back to the 250 at $5+ per gallon. I also did not have much luck with the 292 - approx 340 hours in 3 years and the bearing let loose snapping the rod through the side of block.

Negative! 292 was inline 6, a stroked 250 (165hp)
V6s were 229, and 262....

yep but not just stroked... different block with a taller deck and I believe a bigger bore

Correct, not stroked, taller block; but the same bore, 3.875". Stroke was 4.12".

165 Merc---had 292 in line6 in full size chevy pick up truck--hard to kill!
