I don't think there is a speed limit. Isn't a "shift on the fly" system. It used to be you weren't supposed shift into 4wd HI at speeds over 45mph.
If you put a huge plow you may need to beef it. If you buy a plow rated for your half ton truck, the plow dealer should be able to advise you.

I had 2000 Ford F-150 And now have 2002 and Have never had any trouble shifting in to or out of 4 high. It's 4 low that you must be at a stop, and in neutral to shift in to. And it is speed rated.

I have a 93 Chevy 4X4 and I have used 4 high up to 45 or so. I never really went any faster than that in 4 wheel drive. I guess I always just figured if I could go faster than 45 I didn't need to be in 4 wheel in the first place.
I do have a limit on my speed in 4 Low but am pretty sure there isn't one for 4 high.

call a dealership on this one. Ask for service Dept., tell them you don't have the manual(thats where its listed), and that you need GM's operating spec's.

This way you've got it from the horses mouth.

good luck w/it.

You must be going less than 60 mph to shift into 4 HI. I recently left a Chevy dealership after a few years of working there.

If you have push button 4wd (instead of the floor shift) it will not engage until you are going less than 60. If you feel the need to shift into 4 HI anywhere near 60 you might want to re-evaluate your driving! But... yes you can drive up to and above 60 in 4 HI but not on dry ground.

My absolute best advice is to read the owners manual.

Bob

I live outside of Wash, DC and drive on the Capital beltway daily. Around here if you aren't driving 70+ you WILL get run over! I have found myself shifting into 4 high on the way to work cause it was raining. Then noticed I was driving 75 mph? It's not hard to do with many clueless individuals on the road. But Never had any trouble with shifting in or out of 4 high.
