Hi folks,

After a few months abscence I'm back! See the sites look and feel has changed somewhat. I hope I'm in the correct catagory with my question.

I have pulled the head to replace a leaking head gasket on the above motor. Trouble is, down here in Africa, obtaining a workshop manual for such an old motor is impossible. If anyone can help me with some spec's to put the head back, I'd be grateful. I'm specifically looking at torque settings, bolt down sequence, valve settings etc.

Thanks in advance for any info anybody can provide.

hello
rudeafrican
look at the posts for affa about his 181 cid fourbanger its almost the same engine as far as heads and valves go. all the adjustments for valvetrain are identical. the heads torque to about, pre 1985 is 95 Foot pounds(ft-lbs)1985 on left front to 85 ft-lbs all others 95 ft-lbs. you will need to arrive at the final torque by first torquing all to 35 then 60 then the final ft-lbs. when all are done then go back and check all once more. you should us a sealant on the bolt threads or at least oil them.let me know if I can help. here is a subject I am proficient at. not like E-Tek or oil conversations :) :) :)

Rudeafrican,
Looks like rodbolt gave you all you need. Only thing I can add is that I've always been told to start torqueing inline heads in the center and working out so that you can work out any "flex". Start from center and work to ends to about 35-40 lbs, Dont go for "max torque" during first round or you will warp the head. Each round of tightening should add about 10-15 lbs of torque
Good luck!

Thanks guys. Your input is always appreciated. I only have this weekend to complete the project as on Wednesday I'm flying to New York for my first ever visit to your country. Looking forward to it.
