China's 2.3 million-member People's Liberation Army is the world's largest fighting force, and Beijing has alarmed its neighbors with double-digit percentage increases in military spending nearly every year for a decade.

"It's better for the U.S. to shut up," Sha said. "Keep quiet. It's much, much better."

You really do not want us to go against the Chinese in a full scale war, unless you love the thought of lots and lots of stainless steel coffins. They have a real military, and would give us a real fight. Do not mistake our ability to smash ill-trained ill-equiped forces like Iraq with an ability to effectively fight against the Chinese. Thanks to our brilliant leadership, we would not stand a chance unless we just dropped nukes. Our military is too busy being spread thin where it shouldn't be to be preppared for a real conflict.

That may be, but wasn't the number of military personel cut drastically by clinton? Would it be that same case if we still the numbers that he'd cut?

It would be very counterproductive to get into a cold war with China.

The idea of a hot war makes me glad I have already lived a full life.

China intends to watch from the sidelines while the JudeoChristian world and the Muslim world beat one another up, then pick up the pieces.

well thanks to our bestest Isreali buddies China's military,while already very good, has in the past 20 years or so gotten some very very good western weapons.
AA Missle technology,air to air missle technology,rumour has it they now have a python4 and the knowledge of the python 5.
they have some excellent battle tanks,with western technology, wonder how they got it?, and a large standing force. The US is about the only country in the world with a large OFFENSIVE capeability. most the rest are DEFENSIVE.
I have no fear of the Iraqi navy,or any other navy, rowing across the atlantic and chunking rocks at our coast.
I dont agree now nor ever did about giving our weapons technology to anyone .
but in a conventional war China will be a formidible adversary.
our air and sea power is immense, however at the end of the day the centuries old rule of war remains. to conqour you MUST occupy.
if ya dont occupy, you lose. its about that simple.
do a bit of reading on the Jane's defense site and the Jane's defense weekly.
but so far the chinese offensive capeability is rather limited to local area conflicts.

An all out military conflict against China at the present time or in the foreseeable future is tantamount to us destroying our economy and relegating ourselves to becoming thirdworld country.
Let's not forget the fact that even the computer which you are using is either Made in China, or most of its components are.

china doesnt need a military against the US. THere is enough Chinese in the states, if every one just kills 2 Americans, the game is over. Much like Islam, they had decades to bring in weapons, all sorts. They own lots of property, they probably have a huge stockpile of weapons right under your nose.

Chinese nationals have been coming to America for well over a century, they have been a driving force in the building of the western railroads and have contributed a great deal to American society.
Your scarcasm could indeed have the unintended consequence of stirring up some of the zenophobic tendencies that already exists amongst our esteem membership.
