I have two different props for my 57 Mercury Mark 10 - there's a three-blade 'power prop,' as my dad says it was called, and the standard two-blade speed prop. My dad had the motor on a small runabout in his twenties and 'thinks' there wasn't any noticeable difference except the two-blade prop caused more vibration. Is there any noticeable difference between the two props? I'm using the motor for fishing (when I get the tranny fixed).

Re: Choice of Merc Mark 10 Props

Number of blades doesn't make a prop a "speed" prop or "power" prop.
Pitch size is the main factor rergarding speed or power. There should be a prop size on the props -- X -- (Diameter X pitch).Lower number more power higher number less power more speed.Of course this depends on actual application.Numbers usually on the barrel of the prop.See if you can get us the numbers.Usually a 2 blade is associated with speed but the old mercs mostly came with a 2 blade intended for typical use.A 2 blade is considered the most efficient design but is generally not as versitile.Generally now a 3 blade is considered a better all around prop.and pitch mostly determines the best application.
