On my 89 Merc, I have 1 issue that has led to another annoying issue.

The first problem is the clip, Merc part number 89668, clip for the choke rod keeps coming disconnected, leaving me with no choke. So messing around with this, I suddenly discovers I was holding the choke rod in my hand, disconnected from the choke thermostat assembly. I stuck the rod back down and saw the place where the choke rod is supposed to go through this, but was there tension on this that got unraveled when it got disconnected?

So, how do I fix, if needed to be fix the thermostat, and any ideas on how to keep the rod from coming off the clip.

It's the little things that drive ya crazy!

Whitout any engine serial number I came up with the following: Merc part number 89668 is a chock clevis clip
http://www.**********/parts/detail/merc/M-89668.html

and cost 2.25 each. You didn't unspring anything, the chock opens up by gravety after it warms up and the chock spring expands. Just replace the clevis clip because it sounds like yours is bent or something.

Serial # 0c521959

Shows the Clovis clip part number obsolete.

So just put it back in the hole and call it a day?
