I have a 2006 F40 TRA that all of sudden is very hard to start. (kills battery) It used to "click" when the key was on & pushed in now it does nothing? I put a volt meter on the 2 yellow wires that connect to a ceramic needle type valve on top of the carbs & pushed in the key but got nothing.

Is there a fuse/relay or anything in between that I'm missing? Anyone know what the voltage s/b or how the wiring works? It appears to dissapear in the harness.

Re: choke problem F40 TRA

I'm pretty sure when you push the key in you ARE NOT activating your choke (no mechanical choke on this model) The electrothermal valve operates as a choking system. It is powered by your lighting coil so the engine must be running to power it up. It is normally open to allow fuel to flow. It will close as it heats up. It could be stuck closed thus giving you a hard start situation BUT MOST LIKELY you have dirty carbs. Drain, clean carbs, fuel lines, fuel filters etc. Good luck!!!

Thanx for the info

I'll start with the carbs & filter. I just replaced the fuel line so I don't think that's the issue. I'll start with the remote filter. I did drain it (racor) & it looked okay but might as well replace. I noticed the filter under the cowling is only half full?? Is that normal?
