Choke solenoid halfway

I have an 86 70 hp Johnson, that is having fuel problems. It will start right up and go just fine for a few minutes and then will start to bog at WOT. With a friend driving the other day, I was able the fiddle around with the engine under way and when it was bogging I moved the red lever halfway to the manual position and it took off like a scared cat almost throwing me out the back.
I know this isn't normal and indicates another problem, but I can't think of what it would be, so this is where I come to ask the great people on this forum if they have experienced anything similar or might have an idea what the problem might be.

Thanks in advance

Re: Choke solenoid halfway

This is a VRO right?
This choke, when open, inject fuel directly into cylinders. If you open it with the motor running, too much fuel is going in and the motor drown.
In your case, it solved the problem. My money on clogged carbs or fuel starvation of some sort.
Also, try pushing the bulb when it bogs down.

P.S. excuse my english, my first language is french.

Good luck !

Re: Choke solenoid halfway

If it was a VRO it has been disconnected. I was thinking that it might be starved for fuel and when I was looking around, I did find a kinked fuel line that I'm hoping fixed the problem, I just haven't tested it since then.
Thank you for your quick response. Merci
