Choke solenoid plunger pops out?

The choke solenoid plunger keeps popping out of the solenoid? There is a small spring that goes under the plunger but I don't see how else that plunger is held into the choke solenoid.

Is this repairable or is the choke solenoid itself just bad? What's weird also is when I turn the ignition on the plunger is automatically engaged? This just started happening. It used to only engage when you lift the choke toggle switch. Perhaps the switch itself is messed up and is always on?

Thoughts?

It is supposed to pull in part way when you turn the key on (motor cold). Then it pulls in tightly all the way when you activate the choke switch. Check to make sure both of those functions are working correctly. Beyond that, I don't know. It looks like the long link spring is bent.

Correct , if the thermo-electric choke set-up has not been bypassed the choke comes on part way on a cold engine.----That happens when key is turned on and that function cancels when motor is warm / warms up.------Is the solenoid body position adjusted as per a factory manual , yes or no ??

I will have to check that when I get home, I do have the manual for it.

The way I remember it working before i started having all these issues was I could turn the key to the on position and only when I would lift the toggle, would I hear the solenoid activate pulling the choke open. It may have been partially opening like it was supposed to but I don't remember.

Again, I'll have to check that stuff when I get home.

The solenoid pulls the choke closed, not open. It was originally set up to partially close as I described earlier, but there was a service bulletin describing re-wiring it, so it could be either way now.

Agree with Racer, the body has to be adjusted properly.

I adjusted the body per the service manual and it seems to be working normal again. When you turn the key on and its cold (not warmed up), the choke automatically activates. Once warmed up, the choke turns back off.

The plunger is also not popping out any more. It looks like the body of the solenoid was just way too far slid down, maybe it loosened up or something?
