The choke solonoid on a 1990 johnson v4 has a red lever...what is it for? Is it a manual overide or something? Should it move when the electric choke is applied? Thanks for any info.,,

Re: choke solonoid red lever??

Hi Underthegun,

I have an Evinrude 1990 V4 140hp. The red lever of the primer solinoid will not move when you activate priming with the ignition key. The lever, when applied, will work as if you push the ignition key for priming. When priming is activated ( electrically or manually ) and the engine is cranked, the fuel will be delivered directly to the carb's throat. Don't forget to turn the lever to the run position in normal operation.
