Choke/Starting Problems on 75 Evinrude

I've got a '75 Evinrude 85HP that is baffling me. When trying to start, holding the electric choke switch will not fire the engine. However, manually throwing the choke 'lever' down to the ON position at the motor, will allow the motor start right up (have to turn it back to 'middle OFF position again of course). I've looked at the butterfly valves with the carb intake cover off, and they appear to be doing the exact same thing in the Electric Choke mode as they do when the Manual choke is turned on. Solenoid is good, everything seems to be functioning... any thoughts?
AP

You say that when holding the electric choke in the on position the motor wont fire. I'm thinking you dont mean it looses fire (spark) but simply wont start.

Most likely the butterflys are not closing completely when using the remote switch. Its simply a matter of adjustment to get them to close completely. Fairly common on those older motors.

Good luck!
