How do you go about choosing a new prop for your outboard. I have a 1994 70 hp Johnston with original prop and was trying to figure out if it is worth while to stay with the same prop or try a new. Any suggestions
That engine needs to turn at least 5500 rpm's, with very light load. 6000-tops is OK.

If you lug it, you will destroy it.

Each inch of prop pitch is roughly equivelant to 200 RPM's.

Read this.

http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=36;t=000030
