What kind of motor? Two stroke, two or three cylinders?

Re: Choosing a Tiny Tach

fwiw..I had one on my 89 Force 85 hp...it was a complete waste of time and money..the sample rate is far too infrequent and even when running reasonably well (not very often) it tends to bounce all over the place...most of which is fantasy...eg; 2500, 5000, 10000, 200, 4000, 9000....over and over all in the span of a few seconds.....
spend the cash and get a real tach you will be way happier....
now I know thats not what you asked for but I got burned even after I called the Tiny Tach Co and spoke to one of their reps, got the recommended tach and was ultimately supremely disappointed....
there ya go 2 cents worth!

Thanks for the info. I would rather be led in the right direction. I don't want to be disappointed with my purchase. Maybe I'll spend a few more bucks and get a Telflex tach.

Thank you!

I put two of them on 9.5 motors that I have and was very pleased with the results. Nothing else will work on these motors of course.

You cannot get the information here, though. You have to email the company with your specific motor information, and they will tell you which tach to order. I found the whole experience good, the people are very helpful, and the tach works fine.

If your motor has the equipment for a alternator driven tach, I certainly would agree that it is a better choice.

I had the same problem with erratic readings with my Tiny Tach. I found using non-resistor type plugs was the cause of the concern, I put in a new set of plugs and now it works like a charm.

BIGTWIN...thats a good lesson for me...

I had a problem, got frustrated and ended up bad mouthing a product that should have worked as advertised.
It would appear that I should have posted the problem here... now having learned the answer (The folks at Tiny Tach were never able to resolve the issue)..I'll take my 2 cents worth back :)
