Re: Choosing paint that i an spray on???

I am working toward painting my boat.
I looked at and priced lots of good paint. Automotive was by far the most expensive. It is really not made for boats but will work fine if it is trailered.
I bought Interlux Brightsides for my boat, about 1/3 the price of automotive paint.

Yes.
They have a solvent formulated for spraying.

Yes it can be sprayed. The reason for the difference in price is due to the type of paint. Brightsides is a one part product and the paints you compared it to are 2 part, there's a big difference in cost and performance.

I sprayed brightside today, thin w/10% and went with 60 PSI to get a nice fine mist. Few runs but overall very happy with the first coat. Plan to sand with 320 then spray again. Not sure what I will do then. Anybody have any suggestions for rubbing compounds, sandpaper, ect.???

I would think if sprayed properly your DONE.
Should be nice and shinny and little orange peel.
If you want a piano finish you will have to wait for complete cure to start polishing it.

Re: Choosing paint that i an spray on???

I have used both Interlux Briteside and Petit Easypoxy. They are both 1 part epoxies and are in the same price range.

I have had better results with the Easypoxy. It seems to level better. The Briteside had a tendency to dimple. Note, that this was using a ROLLER. It also may have been a temperature/humidity issue. With that said, and I am by no means a painting expert, but I find the Easypoxy a much more forgiving paint for a novice such as myself. I have also found that with proper surface preparation, this stuff will adhere to several different surfaces. I have used it on fiberglass, plexiglass, aluminum and zamak. I have yet to see a chip in anything I have painted.

I have not tried to spray the Briteside, but I have sprayed Easypoxy with my Wagner sprayer to coat some rail fittings. The results were really good.

I imagine with an professional air sprayer you will get spectacular results from either Briteside or Easypoxy.
