I 'opened up' the CC and found the coils as I had expected; outside covering cracked and peeling and no spark. Couple of questions: Anyone know where I can locate replacements at a reasonable cost? Second thought; I know there's a million designs of coils; is there any coil out there where I can do a transplant on the existing field like with the OMC coils on my Scott's? I looked at an OMC coil and I don't think they'll work on this field / motor. Is there any chance I can resin coat these original coils and get a spark? Please don't ask me to test them. I have the skill of a slug with electric testing and virtually no equipment other than my son holding the plug as I turn the flywheel. thanks!

Re: Chris Craft Challenger magneto

F_R: From doing a little research I believe it has the Bendix Scintilla. There are no magnets in the flywheel. I'm also finding they're very pricey; about 60 to 75 and on up a piece. I can't justify that much. Unless I can find a cheap coil that I can use as a transplant I'm going to have to bag the project and either sell the motor or part it out. Hate to do it but the coil cost is a killer. thanks
