Chriscraft boat lists to starboard side

Hello everyone, hope your season is off to a safe and worry free start.

Here is my situation, curious to see if there is any advice or feedback. I have a 96 Chris Craft Concept cuddy, 23 foot. Has a 5.8 fuel injected VP with duo prop drive. Boat has a full fiberglass floors. Boat runs awesome and generally handles well, given im on a busy lake with decent sized chop. However, the boat lists to the starboard side, seemingly at the stern area. It does this both underway and while sitting in the water. It doesn't have any issues with hole shot and jumps right out of the water, I can get top speeds of 52mph on the gps. At average cruising speeds, if i adjust my weight to the middle of the boat it evens out. I have two batteries in the stern on the starboard side, however I have a full water tank on the port side stern area that evens out that weight.

My concern is that I dont always remember it being like this, and even though its not horrible its definitely noticeable. About two years ago the boat was stored on a lift and covered. During a rain storm one of the cover straps broke thus letting water collect in a puddle near the back end of the cover. Water seeped through and collected in the bilge area, and filled up to the oil pan. I caught it in time, pulled the plug out to drain the water, and everything has worked fine since then mechanically (yes I since installed an auto bilge pump). Im wondering if any of the water somehow collected in that stern area portside somewhere and is still in there.

I also ask this as Im about to install Smart Tabs on the boat, thinking it will help the general listing while underway. However I dont want to ignore a potential issue or the root cause of the problem. I just dont see how water could under the floor, but was wonder if there are any other experiences with this kind of situation. thanks, any insight would be helpful

Well, i went ahead and put the smart tabs on yesterday. Waiting for the 5200 to cure before taking her out. Hope that helps with my listing issue.

Perhaps move the batteries to the port side as well. How long did water sit in the bilge? Hopefully there was no water logging but a marine surveyor can help you determine so.

We just sold our Concept 21 with the 5.0. It also had the list to starboard; maybe just a coincidence. Batteries and spare anchor, along with my fat butt, all on the starboard. No water tank, though.

Good luck!

thanks for the responses, and sorry for all of my repeat responses above lol.

Moosehead, i think the water sat in the bilge for a day or two, i cant see how it would have gotten under the floor but who knows. I guess i can move the batteries to port side but will be a pita

Robb, was your list underway or while sitting?

Well, I went ahead and installed the smart tabs. Seem to work pretty good, though the list is still there. I didn't have an issue with hole shot but the definitely reduce if not eliminate any bow rise. Seems to help with handling a bit and stays on plane at lower speeds. Definitely worth the 100 bucks. Also super easy to install, took 30 min.

Usually when a boat lists when just sitting it is because of weight on that one side.
Add up all the stuff thats on that one side berth, fridge, head, storage for food and beverages ETC, where is the fuel tank located VS water tank? are they full, and people/kids.

If she lists at rest, then it is weight. Smart Tabs are not designed to solve a listing problem although they can be adjusted to help underway. Weight balance in a V hull is always about shifting things around. Tools, anchors, chain, etc are all easier to move than batteries. For me, all v-hulls need helm adjustable tabs. Again, for me, not everyone. So, if it was me, I would get her to sit properly at rest, and then switch out the smart tabs for helm adjustable. Then I can get her to run flat laterally whether my water tank is full or empty, in a cross wind, when Aunt Ethel decides she wants to sit on the other side, etc, etc, etc. Good luck.
