My 18 year old son recently skippered our Grand Banks 36, with his friends, on the Port Madison Yacht Club's Christmas Cruise. They had a little excitement and "someone" ran aground.

You can read the full story at www.portmadisonyc.org. Click on the link "Sailing Story by Peter Mann" to read it. It's a very interesting read and is very thorough. (Adobe .pdf required).

Certainly got the adrenaline flowing. Just goes to show you that mother nature is not to be trifled with. Sounds like they got off pretty lucky.

Actually, the biggest factor here was the fact that the skipper on Sisu didn't quite know the entrance to the harbor (it is narrow and shoal-filled). It was pretty much determined that even in calm weather, he would have done the same thing. Now, getting the boat off in flat seas would have been easier. . . :D
