Re: Chrome plating old boat hardware?
Yes, they can be re-plated. The pits can be filled in. The more work they do the more it will cost. Two small convertable top latches cost $60 each to be plated in 1986 by a good quality plater in Essex County, NJ.
If you need pits filled...... hope you have a fat wallet.
And don't try to clean them up on a polisher or wire wheel or sanding, you can do more damage than you think. Let the plater see the parts as they are just washed clean and dried.
Look up some platers in the yellow pages, then bring them the parts, they will give you an estimate.
It is much, much cheaper to buy new stainless steel parts than re-plate old stuff. But sometimes the old stuff just can not be had new, so you have no choice.
