I have noticed in the carby kits and parts catalogue, that they show a inlet needle, seat and gasket as well as a inlet seat gasket, I noticed on the bottom of the inlet seat a rubber bottom to it, is this the inlet seat gasket as I haven't seen a gasket on my 100hp or my 75hp carbies in this area only a rubber bottom to the seat:confused:10.jpg

Sounds like the inlet seat itself is threaded and screws into the body of the carb. It is replaceable. There is a gasket under the inlet seat to seal it against the body of the carb. The rubber that you see in the inlet seat is part of the inlet itself. It is not removable. If it is damaged, you unscrew the whole inlet replace the whole inlet.

I suspect that the part description in the diagram for item 38 (Inlet needle, seat and gasket) is for the complete assy. Item 39 (inlet seat gasket) is just for the gasket. If you have a bad inlet or needle valve, you order #38. If you've removed the inlet and it is still good and want to re-install it, you just order #39. At least that's my interpretation.

Yes thanks mate, but what I am saying is, I have pulled 3 sets of carbies apart from 3 different motors and none had the #39 gasket, not saying it shouldn't be there but was unsure with the rubber parts being there, so this may explain why my carbies have leaked to date.

Mick: The gasket is a copper washer about 1/4 inch in diameter that sits under the brass seat. It holds in the inlet needle rubber seat and keeps it from deforming into the casting under the pressure of the inlet needle. It is a bit like the copper gaskets used on brake line banjo fittings. Usually, because of deformation it will stay in the aluminum carb casting until you fish it out with a small hook.

Yes, on any carb with a solid tipped needle and rubber seat, the gasket should be there. You do need to tighten the brass seat very tight so the copper will seal against the carb casting and brass seat. If you have not had the copper gasket and now put one in, it will change the float height so you will need to readjust the float.

In most cases the rubber seat is removable. It usually has a lip on one side and this lip goes in the seat, toward the needle tip. This ensures better sealing. HOWEVER: It is possible to reverse the rubber and still get good sealing if the original side was damaged or not sealing correctly.

Thanks Frank, I have had these apart many times and still haven't seen the copper gasket in any of them, so thats 8 carbies, but heres the thing maybe the copper gasket hasn't fallen out and maybe they were still in the hole where the seat goes. It has me wondering now, I will have to check my carbies again :(. I know there should be one and I know about the rubber seat as they do come out, but just haven't sighted a gasket. If it isn't in it will be
