Again the need to flush ones motor after any use in salt or even brackish water was brought home this weekend. I have been rebuilding the boat that this motor came on and have had a few motor things to solve in the process(thanks again guys). I have been testing in the fresh water part of the river so I never exposed this motor to salt. Giving where we live, SW Florida. I should have suspected or anticipated some corrosion related problems but I thought that the flushing the motor was getting while testing on the muffs and our several shake down runs would pretty well clean out the motor. Saturday was our first fishing trip to the Pine Island sound. Lo and behold while moving from one place to another the tach started acting funny and my wife noticed water dripping out of the motors cowl. Hmmm I thought . . . pulled the cowl and lo and behold there was a hole in the exhaust port cover about the size of a pencil. We temporarily plugged it with a foam bobber piece and we finished the day happily. I have a 9.9 kicker on the boat so I had no worry about getting back safe.

So I took a wire brush to the spot this am and the hole grew to the size of 2 quarters (no metal left in that area. The hole is way to big for JB weld so I need a cover. I suspect there are hundreds of them in junk piles but I have called my sources locally and no luck yet. So I need some nationwide help again.

FLUSH AFTER EVERY USE !!! :D

Thanks for any help or advice
Mike

Depending upon the year, there may be several different bolt patterns. So see my private message to you with my email. send me a good photo of the whole plate and I will see if I have one to match. The used ones I have are corroded a bit but still useable. If you try to buy a new one, it will cost about 80 bucks plus 11-13 for each gasket. Pricey, no?
