chrysler 4.4 hp spits and sputters all the time?

I have a couple of early 70's chryslers
one is a 4.4 but it spits and sputters mainly at low rpm
could this be carb or spark?

Dose this sound familiar to anyone?

Typically spitting and sputtering is an indication of a lean condition.
could be as simple as adjusting the low speed mixture.

I played with the mixture and went from 1/4 turn out to 6 turns out
this helped a bit but 6 is alot, it almost fell out
Do you know what the mixture screw should be set at?
what would you do next?

i was just running the 4.4 again after cleaning the carb
it's better but not quite right the mixture is set 3 turns out and runs great under load but still spits abit in low - mid idle when spining freely

kinda sounds like that very inconsistant
