Hey all,

I am a new boat owner (1972 Astroglass model 147 HIN: CFZ6438G0077A) and have found I am already addicted. The first time I took it out fishing, I ended up boating around for 5 hours and fishing for 30 minutes :)

I have what I believe is a 1973 Chrysler 455HF Serial# 4111 (45HP) outboard.

Does this motor have an alternator/regulator? The wiring block in the motor has what appears to be several cut wires and I can't decide what wire is what. It might help if I know what the motor should have first.

I have been lurking here for a while and you all are amazingly helpful, but I have to mention that I think my wife, who has met none of you, probably hates you all since I keep talking about all the parts I need (smart tabs!!), but she'll get over it.

Re: Chrysler 45HP Alternator?

Since I don't know model numbers, I will give description. The engine was made in a number of versions: For simplicity I will discuss only Battery ignition with alternator and magneto ignition. If your engine has two black coils mounted behind the starter and a square or rectangular rectifier mounted above them, then it is battery ignition with alternator. If it does not have the two coils it is magneto ignition with NO alternator and you must periodically recharge the starting battery. The magneto ignition version can be rope started and run without a battery.
