Chrysler 55 HP misfire

My 1978 Chrysler 55 HP is not firing on the top cyclinder; was okay yesterday.. what should I check. so far I took plug from upper cylinder and put on lower wire and plug fires okay holding against engine. wont fire on top wire..??? was going to watch fire works from lake tonight.:(...oh, well... any help would be appreciated....

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if your 55 is Magna-Power II ignition, you are skunked unless it is just a bad coil. That Magna power system was trouble from the get-go and the factory offered a retro-fit unit to convert it. Parts are no longer available. You may be able to scratch up a coil but that's it, and your chances of finding a good used ignition system are almost nil.

If you are lucky enough to have a magneto system or a prestolite system (which I doubt,) Then you need to troubleshoot the points and magneto coils on the magneto system or the CD box and coils on the prestolite system.

model # is 559H8K replaced points and condensers several years ago. not sure how to determine if it is a magna power or magneto .. what do I look for? thanks..
