Another question on my Chrysler 55 HP , 1978.. 2 piece lower unit; I've just changed impeller and seals...water intake screen broke. I put piece of aluminum screening material in intake openeing, I noticed that when idling, water comes out of the port at back of shaft housing, but when I speed up i can see no water spurting out of back. Is this normal? I thought it may have been due to the screen I put in causing it to cavitate so I removed the screen and same thing, no water output when running above idle. If water wasn't being pumped during faster speeds wouldnt the engine overheat and possibly ruin the new impeller? I've been afraid to run it fast if water wasnt coming in...does the water discharge out the exhaust and cant be seen? When I rev it up in nuetral water still comes out but not when engaged and moving thru the water...

When the boat is in rapid motion, evertyhing is sucked out the exhaust snout behind the prop.

The intake screen is not absolutely necessary but if you really want one try Franz at franzmarine or at the Chrysler Crew.
