Chrysler 55 idles slower with cowl on

This might be by design, but the manual doesn't mention anything about having to adjust the idle speed and then check with the cowl on, but it does slow down a little. So what I did was adjust around that, it runs fine on the water, I'm pulling 26 knots which seems good for that boat so I know it doesn't affect the running performance, just the idle speed.

With the cowl off, that engine can take in as much air as it wants. When you put it back on, it is restricted to just the intake air port in the cowl, so it slows down a bit. Just a design characteristic.
