Up to 1984: If it is a Chrysler badged engine, it was made by Chrysler. I believe the only engine they outsourced was the 3.5 and 3.6 single cylinder engine. That was an air cooled lawnmower engine block.
While the lower unit on the six HP looked different than the other small Chrysler engines, I still believe they manufactured it themselves.
That is an interesting question though. I am going to ask on the Chrysler Crew chat room tomorrow night.
